EMDR

What is EMDR?

It’s kinda hard to explain! The initials stand for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. That doesn’t tell us much.

Think about those memories that grab you and take your mind in directions you don’t want to go. They may be old memories – but they are still living inside you today.

EMDR is a non-traditional form of therapy that research shows can help reduce symptoms related to trauma, anxiety, and stress. Over 20 controlled studies have evaluated the effectiveness of EMDR – including those by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the Department of Defense.

We often think of therapy helping to manage symptoms and triggers. With EMDR’s use of the correct input, there is an opportunity to reprocess a painful memory in such a way that it will no longer cause you pain or suffering.

Is there something wrong with you if you need EMDR?

Short answer – No. Many people have memories that trigger years of older emotions. The problem is that traumatic memories are stored differently than other ones. They get stuck in a way that they don’t move through the brain’s natural healing process.

Through EMDR, you will learn to let the traumatic memories go so you can live your life without being hounded by your past anymore.
